Members will be agog to know the outcome of the great Christmas Chase trail run from Shipbourne on Sunday 18th December. In this event the participants were divided into two teams - a fast team and a "medium" team. This was so that they could race the two stages, with the fast team having a longer course in each case.
With the fast group (above) straying off course on the first stage, the medium team (below) narrowly finished ahead.
However, the tables were turned on leg two as the medium team took a longer tour of the green pastures of the Fairlawne Estate than intended, leading to a hectic finish. The fast team caught the medium team on the sticky clay soil of the final climb (see top), so the final result was a score draw. Most stayed for breakfast in the Chasers Inn afterwards.
Thanks to James and Grace and Jim for the photos, and to Jim for organising the event and the breakfasts and providing water. Much fun was had by all and further trail runs early next year are being considered.
Members assembled for the final trail run of the current series from Knockholt on 7th August. Jim Knight organised the event, provided water, and took this photo. All the runners completed the eight-mile course featuring scenic views over Westerham as well as a fascinating exploration of rural parts of the London Borough of Bromley. The only disappointment was that there were no more trail runs scheduled.
Warm humid conditions prevailed over the gentle undulations of the scenic Penshurst trail run on Sunday 17th July, with most members opting for the 9.7ish mile route and the post-run coffee. As usual Jim Knight provided water and support en route, although the fast group were too quick for him at one point! The next trail run, the last currently scheduled, is from St Katharine's Church, Knockholt on Sunday 7th August. Trail run details are here.
Members had a great morning's trail running on Sunday 29th May, setting out from Kemsing in a ten mile loop taking in Knatts Valley, Romney Street and Austin Lodge. Jim Knight popped up every couple of miles to provide water, and took the above picture of the slow group standing around above Otford. Among the interesting flora and fauna spotted was this delicious-looking snail.
The next trail run is from Darent Car Park, Westerham at 9 am on Sunday 19th June. See the details here. Due to upcoming holidays, this is the last advance notice of the trail run so trail runners please put it in you diaries now.
Also, apologies in advance for likely delay in reporting the Harvel 5, Staplehurst 10k, High Elms 10k and next KYAL meeting on the website due to holidays.
