I attach the results for our meeting at Canterbury on 1st June. Again, although with a smaller turnout, we managed to secure a successful third place in our division (fourth place in the overall series). This was by virtue of contesting every event for all age groups, even if it involved tackling something unfamiliar.

The opening track event on a cold evening was the 100m sprint, where we achieved third places through Martin White (13.8 seconds in the M35A race), Rob Carr (in M35B), David Lobley (in M50), with a second place from Geoffrey Kitchener (in M60). Unfortunately, David sustained injury in preparing for the long jump and was forced to drop out of his remaining events, which were then shuffled between the rest of the team members.

In the 800m competition, Rob Carr was third in the M35B race, just headed by Martin White (a rare and unexpected outing for him at this distance, but filling well the shortage in our event cover) as fourth runner in the M35A race which was run simultaneously. The M50 race saw Duncan Cochrane finish second as our fastest 800m runner, and his 2 minutes 46.9 seconds places him just outside the top UK 30 (M55) in the national rankings.

None of us could claim much expertise in discus and long jump, but we had a go and the best placings were third, by Rob and Duncan in the long jump (M35 and M50). Our final event, the 4x100m relay, was run by Martin, Geoffrey, Rob and Duncan in a slower time than our last outing, at Sutcliffe Park, but still provided us with another third place, nearly ten seconds ahead of our rivals, Swanley. The overall position in relation to Swanley has now become rather interesting. They are third in the division, with ten match points; we are fourth with nine. However, if we were to head Swanley at the next meeting so as to level up, we have the superiority in the number of event points scored throughout (114, against 93). (Note that earlier results have been recalculated as a result of an incorrect methodology used earlier.)

The next meeting is on Friday 12th June, at Bromley.

The Bromley programme is:
