SAC team

The second race of this season’s Kent Fitness League cross-country series took place in Swanley Park on Sunday Nov 9th, writes Jim Knight.

At 11.00 a.m. the field of 495 runners from 18 clubs throughout Kent stood in silence to show their respect for those who have died in war. Fittingly seven World War 2 planes flew overhead – hurricanes and spitfires from the Biggin Hill flypast – creating an emotional atmosphere on this very special day of remembrance.

The whistle blew, the sun came out, and the runners set off to tackle three laps of the park, made slow and muddy by the heavy overnight rain.

Sevenoaks AC had a team of 32 runners, but were missing star athletes David & Allan Lee, and Chris Desmond.

Dartford, once again fielded a strong team (28 from Dartford Harriers and a huge contingent of 60 from Dartford Road Runners)

Immediately the Dartford men went into the lead and dominated throughout the race, with Dartford Harriers taking the first 4 places. The winner was Sergiu Gaidvc in a very impressive time of 29.48 for the 5-mile course.

The Sevenoaks men’s team of Andy Nicoll (28th), Keith Dowson (34th), Andy Ashlee (48th), Lee Lintern (57th), James Beeston (58th ), Stephen Searby (64th) and James Wright (67th), finished in sixth position.

However the Sevenoaks ladies ran brilliantly to come 3rd and now lead the series. With Cath Linney in 6th position, Katie Wills in 14th and Heather Fitzmaurice in 20th, the team was only one point behind Paddock Wood (2nd) and two points behind winners Larkfield AC.SAC Women

In the first race of the series (2 weeks ago in Knole Park) the Sevenoaks ladies comfortably beat both of these team and go into the third race with a one point lead over Dartford Harriers.

The combined team lies in 3rd place behind the two Dartford teams.
