John Denyer made sure of silver in the M60 category of the Kent Road Race Grand Prix with a fine second place in the final event of the ten race series. This was the Wilmington 10k, and Denyer led home the Sevenoaks Athletics Club team with an impressive 41:39 clocking in windy conditions over an undulating course.

After nine races, the Sevenoaks men were in ninth place among 38 competing clubs, while the women were sixth out of 32. Although the scheduling of a Kent League Cross Country Race the previous afternoon affected the turnout, with some of Sevenoaks AC's foremost distance runners missing, provisional assessment suggested that the Club's Grand Prix positions had been maintained.

Simon Hallpike was the second Sevenoaks runner home, leading a closely-packed trio with 44:27, ahead of Geoff Vine (44:37) and David Lobley (44:46). Vine was eighth M60 in the series at the start of the race and looked to have comfortably secured his position.

Next to finish was Sally Shewell, Sevenoaks AC's leading woman in the series - 26th overall and sixth in the W45 category. Despite a slight temperature, Shewell finished in an excellent 48:33 to round off her Grand Prix season.

The Sevenoaks team was completed by a tired Rob Johnson, competing after contesting the gruelling cross country race the previous afternoon and finishing in a commendable 51:17, and 73-year-old Ron Denney in a sprightly 56:27. Full Wilmington results are HERE, final Grand Prix results HERE.
