KFL Nurstead Court, Meopham - 15th January 2012

There was another excellent turnout of SAC runners at the penultimate Kent Fitness League match at Nurstead Court. David Lee and Sally Shewell led 22 Sevenoaks athletes in fine conditions over splendid cross-country course. The combined team and the men were 10th and the women 9th on the day, so that the combined team stays eighth in the league standings although the women drop to eighth and the men to tenth. The final KFL race is on 19th February at Blean Woods, Rough Common, although the KFL returns to Nurstead for the relays on 11 March (see Calendar).

KFL Minnis Bay, Birchington - 8th January 2012

Lee Cooper and Sally Shewell led full SAC teams for the fifth KFL event of the season at Minnis Bay on 8th January. Despite the distance and the Kent Championships the day before (see below), the SAC turnout was excellent with the combined team and the men in 14th and the women 10th. The combined team and men stay eighth in the league standings and the women stay sixth. The sixth KFL race is on 15th January at Nurstead Court (see Calendar).

Kent XC Championships, Wilmington - 7th January 2012

David Lee led five SAC runners in the senior men's race at the county cross-country championships at Wilmington Grammar School on Saturday 7th January. The race was six-to-score, so no team score was recorded. SAC had no runners in any of the other categories on the day.

KFL Avery Hill Park - 2nd January 2012

Twenty-one SAC runners turned out for the first cross-country of 2012 at the KFL event at Avery Hill Park on 2nd January. Despite a brief layoff, David Lee was our leading male runner in 16th, while Catherine Linney made a welcome return to the KFL as our first woman in 14th. The SAC combined team was eleventh on the day, the men were twelfth and the women sixth, with the combined team and men dropping to eighth in the league standings and the women moving up to sixth. The next KFL race is on 8th January at Minnis Bay (see Calendar).

Sevenoaks Seven Date Confirmed: 13 May 2012

Race Director Duncan Warwick Champion has received approval from Knole Estate to hold the Sevenoaks Seven on Sunday 13 May 2012. Sevenoaks AC has approval for both the senior and a junior run. No restrictions have been specified, other than the 500-runner maximum as imposed last year by Natural England.

Kent Veterans Cross Country Championships, Tunbridge Wells - 10th December 2011

Sevenoaks AC's over-60 men repeated their second place of last year at the Kent Veterans Cross Country at Tunbridge Wells on 10th December. John Denyer was eighth, Geoff Kitchener tenth and Lyndon Collins eleventh, demonstrating excellent packing and making light of the absence this year of Geoff Vine. SAC also fielded a strong team in the M40 section, with Keith Dowson leading them to seventh place, while Richard Pitcairn-Knowles ran well for fourth M70.

Deal 5, Walmer - 6 November 2011

Keith Dowson was second M40 and Pauline Dalton second W45 at the final Kent Grand Prix race of the season over 5 miles at Deal. In all, eight runners represented SAC in the race, boosting our final standings in the series. Pauline finished second in the W45 category in the overall GP, our only prize-winner in the series this year. However, no fewer than 29 members scored points for SAC with the men finishing 14th and the women 9th after the full programme of 11 races.

David Lee had six clubmates to support him at the second Kent League Cross Country of the 2011/12 season at Somerhill School on 29th October. KFL Knole Park - 23rd October 2011

David Lee and Pauline Dalton lead the SAC teams home in 6th and 9th respectively, while Keith Dowson was ninth and first M45 only seven days after his 2:47:45 at the Abingdon Marathon. Our combined team was fourth, with the women fifth and the men fourth helped by an excellent turnout. Rob Carr and his team of SAC volunteers did a brilliant job organising the race which recorded 385 finishers.

North Downs Run 30k - 19th June 2011

Intrepid M45s Duncan Warwick-Champion and Erik Folkesson were the only two SAC runners in the tough, hilly North Downs Run over at least 30k on 19th June. But they looked as fresh after the race as they did before!

Harvel 5/Beckenham 10k - 4th and 5th June 2011

Pauline Dalton won twice in twenty hours when she was first W45 at the Harvel 5 and at the Beckenham 10k. At the Harvel 5 there was a splendid turnout of Sevenoaks athletes, led by Andrew Mead who was 7th overall and 2nd M40. Pauline also led our women's team to second place. Conditions were hot with gusty winds that almost blew away the club tent.

Pauline was the only SAC runner at Harvel who also managed to contest the Kent Grand Prix 10k race at Beckenham the following morning, but that didn't stop her winning the W45 category. Pauline was joined by Steve Seagrove and Simon Hallpike as most members opted to run just the Harvel race. Steve was missed after the race, making for a rather small team photo.

Grand Union Canal 145M Race - 28-29 May 2011

Rob Carr took five hours and sixteen minutes off his time of last year at the 145 mile Grand Union Canal race on the weekend of 28-29 May. Rob was 28th in 37 hours and 30 minutes. Rob ran most of the way with Fraser Partridge who finished in 36th place in 39 hours and 12 minutes.

Ted Pepper 10k/Goudhurst 10k - 2nd and 1st May 2011

Jim Fitzmaurice went one better than last year with second place in the M65 category in the Ted Pepper 10k. The race hosted the SCVAC 10k championship in which Jim was also second. London Marathon - 17 April 2011

Heather Fitzmaurice led the Sevenoaks AC runners in the 2011 London Marathon although her father Jim achieved a slightly better category position. Predictably, our ultra-running legends, Richard Thomas and Rob Carr, were also amongst those present.

Darent Valley 10k - 10 April

David Lee led no fewer than ten Sevenoaks AC runners home with twelfth place at the Darent Valley 10k at Eynsford as our intrepid members were undaunted by the challenging course and early start. Dartford 10, 3 April

Just two Sevenoaks AC runners turned out for the Dartford 10 on 3 April. The race was designated part of the Kent GP as an afterthought after Paddock Wood AC complained that many of their runners were needed to help organise, and therefore couldn't run in, their own half marathon event. Richard Pitcairn-Knowles was 392nd in 1:36:40, and Brian Page was 404th in 1:38:15 in the rearranged event, postponed from snowy January. Full results HERE.

Paddock Wood Half Marathon, 27 March

Keith Brown and Heather Fitzmaurice led the Sevenoaks AC men and women home in the Kent GP Half Marathon event at Paddock Wood on 27 March. As well as our current members below, June and Andrew Johnson made a guest appearance, with the holder of the current W65 national leading marks at 5,000m and 10,000m finishing fourth in the W55 category.

KXCL Swanley - 12 March

Sevenoaks had a presence in both races at the final Kent Cross Country League match at New Barn Park, Swanley on 12 March. Rachel Haworth was a brilliant 12th in the women's race in 25:22, while David Lee was 32nd in the men's event in 38:18. Sevenoaks' only two team scores came in the men's series where they were enough for 13th place after the four races. David Lee was our top individual in the series in 44th, three places ahead of Keith Brown.

KFL Oxleas Wood, Eltham - 20 February

Sevenoaks AC's men and women were both 5th and the combined team sixth in the final match of the 2010-11 Kent Fitness League cross country at a misty and muddy Oxleas Wood. Heather Fitzmaurice was sixth and Pauline Dalton 10th before Sally Shewell closed in the women's team in 35th. These three were also placed in the overall standings with Heather 4th, Pauline 13th and Sally 29th. David Lee and Andrew Mead led the men home in 18th and 19th respectively with Fraser Partridge making a welcome return to the Oxleas mud in 41st. Only Duncan Warwick-Champion and Geoff Vine figured for Sevenoaks in the overall standings, in 95th and 99th places respectively, as the SAC team varied throughout the season. Twenty-one men and eight women ran at least once for us in this winter's KFL, almost identical to last year. However, in the final team standings, the men were 10th, the women 8th and the combined team 11th, an improvement on 14th, 8th and 14th last year. Spot the differences between the before and after team photos (no prizes).

Sidcup 10 - 13 February

Geoff Vine was 3rd M60 as the remeasured course still yielded fast times for the four SAC members present on a damp and gusty morning. Peter Ash led them in with 70'03 for 111th followed in 125th in 71'36 by Geoff, with Simon Hallpike 130th in 71'56 and Rob Johnson 192nd in 77'52. Full results HERE.

Kent Cross Country League - Race 3, Swanley 12 February

Sevenoaks senior men were one short of a full team in the KXCL at New Barn Park, Swanley leaving them 13th in the league with one race still to go. Keith Brown was our first home in 31st with 39'22, followed by David Lee in 39th in 40'05 and Lyndon Collins 94th and 2nd M60 in 48'23. The final race in the series is also at New Barn Park and is for seniors only on 12th March. Full results HERE.

Canterbury 10 - 30 January

John Denyer was 2nd M60 and Pauline Dalton 3rd W45 as they led a large Sevenoaks team home in this Kent Grand Prix race. Conditions were windy with occasional bursts of bright sunshine and the undulating nature of the course had just a few interruptions for steeper hills, so some of the times (below) were very impressive.

KFL Nurstead Court - 16 January

Allan Lee finished first in this race but is not allowed to score, so David Lee led the two full teams home in bright sunshine and on a largely firm course. David Simpson cheered us on and took some pictures as the combined team were eighth, the women twelfth and the men fifth on the day. After five races, the men are 11th, the women 8th and the combined team are 12th.
