On
Sunday 1 February 2009 Knole
Park
welcomed runners from 17 clubs all over Kent
to compete in the final match of the Kent Fitness
Cross Country League.
It was a bitterly cold morning but this did not deter a record 333
runners from
completing the tough 5.5 mile course, writes Rob
Carr.
The race winner
was 16 year old Josh Elderfield running for Medway
& Maidstone AC.
Sevenoaks
AC was represented by 22 runners
of which the highest placed finisher was Rob Murray in a very
creditable 4th
place. Chris Desmond was the second Sevenoaks runner home in 25th,
followed by 60 year old John Denyer in 73rd.
These
fine performances by the men were
overshadowed somewhat by the Sevenoaks AC ladies team whose collective
efforts
earned first place in the female race with sterling performances from
Heather Fitzmaurice
(7th), Lindsey Shing (8th) and Cathy Hughes (13th).
This result means that the ladies team ended the season in 3rd
place.
In the earlier
junior race Caitlin Carr
(14) came first in the girls age 13-16 category, and with this sealed
victory in
the 2008/2009 championship for her age group.
