Lee competing for the Sevenoaks AC team continued his return to form by
winning the Kent Fitness League cross country race over 5 miles at
Avery Hill Eltham on Sunday. He quickly went to the front of the
pack, 263 runners strong, tucking in behind previous league champion
Andrew Pickett (Dartford Harriers) for the first half of the race, but
found he had plenty of surplus energy, despite a nagging hamstring
injury, to test Andrew with a spurt at 3 miles. This developed
into a 36 second lead that Allan held to the line proving Christmas
turkey is really good for you. Allan’s finishing time was 26 mins
55 sec. Avery Hill is a flat course allowing runners to produce fast times and the weather was most kind. Sevenoaks had a stronger team in place compared with the last event at Meopham. The ladies were well represented to gain them 3rd place, out of 17 teams. Heather Fitzmaurice in 59th place, was third lady home in 33.17, just behind Mark Haworth who recorded 33.14, for 58th. Cathy Hughes, making a welcome return to racing, was 140th (16th lady) in 36.58, just ahead of Sally Shewell who was 157th (26th lady) in 37.49. Vikki White, recovering from flu, was pleased with her time of 40.27 for 204th place (46th lady) and shows good promise for the future, as her training picks up. The mens team were 6th/17, helping the Sevenoaks AC combined team to 6th /17, overall on the day. Chris Desmond ran a careful race picking up the pace with time and now recovered from Achilles injury he was very pleased with his performance for 27th place in 31.04. John Denyer, closing in on the M60 age band, ran his heart out for 47th place in 32.36, only just failing to catch David Lee on the line. David ran 32.35 for 46th place.
