Sevenoaks AC Handicap 8 December 2024

Dan Dan Witt made sure of winning the 2024 Sevenoaks AC handicap trophy with an emphatic victory in the final race of the series.

In the teeth of storm Darragh, Witt flew round the hilly seven mile course to win the race by more than four minutes and record the fastest time of the day with 54:16. It was the first time that the club chairman, who has recently undergone cancer treatment, had tackled the longer handicap course for two years.

In second place in the race was John Denyer. The seventy-six year old registered comfortably the best age-related score as he pulled away from runners starting behind him and overtook the early leader to finish in a time of 59:42. And Sam Znetyniak had a strong run just thirty seconds further back in third with the fastest women's time of the day of 59:52.

Neither of Daniel Witt's close challengers for the series title started the final race, while Witt improved his series score, winning the trophy by three points from Simon Rowe and Andrew Mead. These two finished level on points with Rowe second by the tightest of tiebreaks, having beaten one more runner in his best four scoring races. The top three placings therefore finished 1. Dan Witt; 2. Simon Rowe; 3. Andrew Mead. The full final series table is below.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 series a new series for 2025 begins in the New Year. The first race, over the alternate five mile distance, starts from the Sevenoaks School track at 08:30 on Sunday 19th January. Newcomers are very welcome to take part. Details are on the Sevenoaks AC website here.
