Kent League XC at Somerhill Schools, Tonbridge - 24 October 2009

On Saturday 24th of October Sevenoaks AC had runners in most of the races in the second fixture in the 2009/2010 KCAA Cross Country League. This was held in the ground of the Somerhill Schools in Tonbridge. Conditions were pretty good for running despite rain the night before and on the morning of the event.

The best SAC performers were the under-15 boys, led by Dominic Brown in 7th place in 17:10. Brown was backed up by Mads Kjaergaard 19th in 18:30, Jamie Monkhouse 23rd in 19:04, Miles Hawes 33rd in 20:12 and James Tatton 38th in 23:29. This put the team in 5th place on the day and 3rd after two races.

The under-13 boys were also able to complete a full team on the day with Matthew Johnson, 18th in 14:56, leading Anders Kjaergaard (20th in 15:27) and Sam Annetts (23rd in 16:01) to sixth place in the team race and seventh after two races.

For the senior men, Alan Lee was not able to run but came to lend his support on the day. In in a race won by Mike Coleman of Maidstone and Medway AC in 33.00, SAC's first finisher was Keith Brown, 53rd in a time of 41:08. Brown was backed up by Chris Desmond, back from injury and not far behind in 65th place (42:45). Then Glenn Maule finished his first ever cross country event in 114th place (48:30), with Lyndon Collins completing the scoring positions in 123rd position (50:29). The non scorers were Rob Carr in 125th (51:13) and Rob Johnson 143rd (57:42). Rob had just flown in from Italy a few days before the race! The men's team was 14th on the day and 15th after two races.

SAC also fielded a sprinkling of female athletes across the categories. Jenny Julian put in possibly the strongest performance, finishing in 12th place in a time of 23:52 in a very high quality senior women's race. Megan Annetts also ran well in the under-15 girls race finishing 15th in 16:10. Emma Campbell was 17th in the under-17 girls in 23:22, while Emily Monkhouse, 31st in 14:15 and Georgina Tatton 34th in 14:40 ran well for us in the under-13 girls.

The next event is for women and juniors only. It is at Swanley Park on November the 14th. The event after that is for men and juniors only and is at Danson Park, Bexley on December 5th.
