Kent Young Athletes League - Deangate 13 July 2008

Despite many athletes unable to make the match because of holidays and clashes with other events, the Club still did well and shows that what athletes we have are competitive, writes Darrell Smith.

Girls

In the U13 Girls we placed 4th with Grade 4 * performances from Simone Baxter and Sophie Lessops in the 75m and 150m. This coupled with a win in the Shot Putt for Sophie Clinton rounded off a good day for the U13s.

The U15 Girls team placed 3rd. There were Grade 4 performances and a personal best (pb) from Megan Hawes in the 800m and the same event saw Olivia Neilson in her first race for Sevenoaks running really well to win the B string 800m.

Olivia Neilson and Megan Annetts both ran 47.9 showing good speed and Harriet equalled her High jump personal best for 2nd place.

Boys

The Boys could only field an U13 team but this didn't stop us from having a great day.

Lewis Church racked up the most points of the whole of the Sevenoaks team with 32 points and earned the crown as Most Valuable Athlete (MVA). He achieved G4 performances in the 100m and long Jump and a G2 performance in the High Jump with a pb of 1m 40cm.

We had some good runs in the Hurdles, 200m and 800m from Alastair Bishop, Miles Hawes and Sam Annetts all placing 1st or 2nd in their events. The secret weapon was Charlie Mumbray who won the shot and Javelin (the latter with G4 performance)

All these performances resulted in a win, yes a win for Sevenoaks!

The final Kent Young Athletes match is at Erith on the Sunday 10th August. I believe that with a full team and the coaxing of our U15s boys out of retirement we can challenge Invicta for 2nd place

Come on Sevenoaks!

PS if you don’t have a Sevenoaks vest try and invest! in one before the last KYAL match. I don’t think I can cope with the stress of finding vests for athletes on the day. They sell them at Bat and Ball Sports Sevenoaks

* If a performance reaches a certain level then they are awarded Grade 1,Grade 2,Grade 3,Grade 4 status. Grade 1 is the highest. These are sometimes referred to as G1,G2,G3 and G4*
