Allan Retains Title

Team

Sevenoaks AC fielded their strongest team for months at the annual Harvel 5 mile road race on Saturday 6th June, writes Geoff Vine. Nineteen Sevenoaks runners made the roll call to produce some fantastic performances, led by Allan Lee, who won the race for Sevenoaks.

592 runners from across Kent and further afield, even from Australia and New Zealand, competed for the Johnson Matthey trophy, with charity donations going to the Royal London Society for the Blind.

The race is a popular event and this year was included in the Kent Road Race GP for Kent athletic clubs. Allan won this race last year and after a brief illness he was not sure of winning this year, especially with higher calibre runners present. However, he put in a fantastic effort beating last years time to finish at the front, 10 secs ahead of Graeme Saker of Tonbridge AC, in a time of 26 mins and 36 secs.

Next for Sevenoaks was David Ives in 11th place in 28.23. This was a welcome return for David after a few weeks off helping out at home after the recent birth of his second son. Keith Brown, a strong tri-ahtlete, demonstrated what cross training can do for you to finish in 29.04 for 17th place. Making up the first 4 for Sevenoaks was David Lee in 29.38, 24th place. This combined performance meant that Sevenoaks AC also took home the prize for best performing mens team.

John Denyer continued his excellent run of good form to take 2nd M60 place in 31.52 (57th) and in so doing broke the long standing Sevenoaks AC club record for 5 miles by over a minute!

New club member Pauline Dalton, "fresh" from the London Marathon was first Sevenoaks lady finisher in 34.23 (112th), and Jill Bastable was not too far behind in 34.56 (128th).

The remaining Sevenoaks AC results were as follows:- · 36th Andrew Mead 30.22 · 120th Duncan Warwick Champion 34.34 · 140th Geoff Vine 35.15 · 152nd Peter Ash 35.42 · 156th Erik Folkesson 35.49 · 164th Rob Carr 36.02 · 171st Peter De-Kisshazy 36.20 · 178th Simon Rowe 36.54 · 223rd Sally Shewell 38.39 · 291st Happy Fisher 40.58 · 301st Jim Knight 41.17 · 335th Rosemary Conquest 42.25
