Wins For Men, Women and Allan!

Start

Sunday 7 June saw the biggest turn out of Sevenoaks club runners for many years compete at Harvel, close to Meopham, in the annual Harvel 5 mile multi-terrain race.

This event, organised by the Harvel Hash House Harriers, attracted its largest field entry ever making for crowded enthusiastic running all the way. The race takes place through the walking trails of the Trosley Country Park so underfoot conditions after the recent rain made it hard going .Everyone of the 500 runners finishing the race was in need of a good shower!

After much hard work by the club organisers 15 Sevenoaks runners ran the race to produce the best club results in a Kent road race in many years, showing just how much athletic talent resides in the club. The fact that there was free drink and food for the team after the event had nothing to do with it!

Allan Lee, the winner of this years Sevenoaks 7 in Knole Park, just simply displayed his latent natural talent and ran a careful race for the first 4 miles, not pushing too hard and staying well within his reserve. At the last mile marker, with the race essentially downhill, he kicked for home and took a 30 second lead all the way to the line, crossing alone, with no second runner in sight. Allan’s winning time was 27 mins 4 secs and he claims he could have gone much faster! In strong support to Allan were Chris Desmond, David Lee, Allan’s brother and Andrew Mead, who packed close finishing very high up the field in 29.54, 31.30, and 31.32 respectively. This team performance was good enough to give Sevenoaks the first team prize.

If this was not enough the Sevenoaks ladies were not to be outdone. Jill Bastable just recovered from unwelcome injury was first across the line for the Sevenoaks ladies in 35.30, chased all the way by Lindsey Shing in 35.36, Carol Beadle  in 36.04 and Sally Shewell in 37.02. This fantastic performance gave the 4 of them the ladies race team trophy to show the Sevenoaks men that they too can turn it on!

The remaining team performances were as follows Rob Carr 33.26, Erik Folkesson 34.49, Geoff Vine 35.20, Simon Lewis 38.30, Simon Rowe 39.05, Jim Fitzmaurice 44.20 and club chairman Paul Tabor 45.46.
